AlphaGary Nominated for Environmental Award
AlphaGary-Leominster has been nominated by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection for the US EPA New England Region Environmental Merit Award. The Award recognizes the environmental responsibility demonstrated by the management of AlphaGary through its effective Environmental Management System. The Massachusetts DEP has stated in its nomination letter that AlphaGary is "an example of the environmental stewardship that this agency is trying to promote throughout the Commonwealth".
The nomination resulted after a January 2003 comprehensive compliance inspection of the AlphaGary facility in Leominster, MA. The inspection included a review of the facility's compliance with the Department's Air Pollution Control, Hazardous Waste Management and Industrial Wastewater regulations as well as an in-depth review the existing Environmental Management System. The agency was especially pleased with AlphaGary's efforts to reduce lead usage through its Lead Reduction Pilot Program. The program involved the reformulation of existing products, testing, third party certification and customer collaboration. AlphaGary was also commended for the development and implementation of an Environmental Management System "that provides the management elements to ensure environmental compliance and encourages the concepts of beyond compliance".
AlphaGary is pleased to have been nominated for this prestigious award and sees the nomination as validation of its excellent environmental stewardship efforts.
